She's A Freak!

talking to a orange.jpgYou've heard rumors about them. Freaky freshmen who come to Belmont and attempt to earn all their convocation credits in their freshman year. What kind of insane person would attempt such a thing? Not only do you need ten convocation credits in five areas (Spiritual Development, Personal Growth, Culture and Art, Academic Lecture, and Community Service), but you also have to attain ten electives as well. Who would attempt such a feat in their freshman year? Well, you're looking at her.

Truth be told, I didn't come to Belmont with the mindset of getting convo's out of my way. It kind of just started when at the end of last semester I had 36. Really, all I had done was attend convo's that interesed me, but they really started to add up. And so at the beginning of this semester I thought, why not get all my convo credits out the way? Horror stories of seniors who had to spend extra semesters in college because they didn't have enough convo credits to graduate also influenced my decision. So, am I a little crazy, slightly insane, a bit out of my mind... ? (I mean, just look at that picture) Maybe, but in all honesty, the majority of my 48 convo credits have been from events that I enjoyed attending.

For example, Belmont's Spiritual Emphasis week was last Monday through Wednedsay (Not really a week, but don't tell them that) and the keynote speaker, Dan Taylor, had so many interesting things to say. I was truly glad to listen to him speak, and then the addition of convo credit on top of that was really cool. I really think Belmont does an excellent job of hosting convo's that students can actually enjoy. (Learn more about Convo here!)

I'm not admonishing any future students to take the road that I have chosen, however it is possible and it's quite fun along the way.
