Urban Showcase
The past few weeks have been pretty busy for many of us students just trying to get back into the routine of classes and campus life. But for me especially because on top of all that stuff, I was auditioning for the Urban Showcase here on campus. There is last year's winner of the Urban Showcase Alvin Love, who is also in the commercial showcase this year. I know what most people think..."WHAT? Belmont has an Urban Showcase?!" Yes, in fact we have them for every genre of music.
We have one for Pop/Rock, Christian, and of course Country being here in Nashville (just to name a few). The showcases are hosted by the School of Entertainment and Music Business, and are entirely put on by the students. Everything from the stage setup, lighting, sound board, and the main acts are run by the students. The process is pretty cool because you first submit recording of a couple original songs you've made. Then, if you make it past that stage you then get a chance to perform those songs in front of four or five judges, which are currently music industry professionals in that genre. Then once you get accepted, you are in the showcase and ready to perform in front of thousands here in the Curb arena on campus. For me personally, I made it to the live auditions, but unfortunately I didn't get into he showcase. But hey, no hard feelings I.t was fun while it lasted... being able to record in the student studios here on campus as well as in a friend's dorm. And just being able to tryout something that I have always wanted to do sooner or later. But let's look on the bright side, there always next year right!
