One month down...

Well it has now been a month since I’ve arrived here at Belmont. Crazy to think it has already been a month. Classes are well underway, and the homework continues to be piling up (at least I am not as much of a procrastinator as I was in high school). I have settled into a nice little routine consisting of school, homework, socializing with friends, wasting way too much time on the computer and of course, Target runs.

I made the forensics team, and I am so excited!! In high school I was involved with mock trial and that pretty much became the center of my life there. It’s where I met all my friends, and spent a vast majority of my time outside of classes. So I figured that if I could find one thing that I really liked to do here and just immerse myself completely in it, not only would I come out knowing tons about debate and public speaking and whatnot, but also I would have an opportunity to meet people who I may not have otherwise. Here are some more activities here at Belmont that you can get involved in.

Classes are going pretty well, and it is not as overwhelming as I thought it was going to be. Don’t get me wrong, I am studying more now than I have ever before in my life, but that isn’t really saying much. The main difference I have seen in the homework here as opposed to in high school, is that in college a vast majority of it is reading. It is good and bad; no busy work but at the same time, it takes more self motivation to actually get the reading done. I like it better though, being able to learn information the way that I want and not the way that the questions force me to learn. Another awesome thing about classes is that I don’t have any class everyday of the week. I came from a high school where we just had a 9 period day, everyday the same classes. I love the fact that now I have an extra day to do all my homework.

And so it goes. Belmont is actually becoming more like home everyday. I still miss my family and friends and the typical New York stuff a bit, and The Mets (baseball) have won their division for the first time in my life and I wasn’t there to watch it. Oh well. Instead, I will just have to go find some awesome country concerts to go to.
That is one thing that I have not been taking near enough advantage of, the awesome city of Nashville. Before this year, I had been to Nashville about two other times, and just loved the city. Yesterday was the first time I ventured downtown; I went to see the Egyptian exhibit at the Frist Museum. So that is on the agenda for the next time my friends and I have a day to spare, go be tourists in downtown Nashville!
Well, it is now my homework time, so I better go get on that. Seniors, keep up with all your college stuff, do not put it off to the last minute!! Believe me, I made that mistake with some schools and Thanksgiving and Christmas break consisted of me and the mountain of papers that are college applications. Have fun and be sure to surf around the Belmont site more to see all that goes on here!
