MBU/AET/SNG/EIS 4000 SEMINAR "THE INSIDER'S VIEW" FAQ

Q: Do "Insider's View" and seminar count the same for seminar credit? A: Yes

Q: I am an MBU (EIS,AET) major. Can I go to a SNG seminar and get credit? A: Yes, if room permits you may attend another program's seminar and receive credit.

Q: I attended an event and I have not yet received credit. What should I do? A: First, you should not expect credit to be posted any sooner than a week after the event. It is also important to make sure that you get your card properly scanned. Students are often fooled into thinking they got their card scanned because they are not paying attention to the process: They hear the beep of the scanner and assume that it was their card that was scanned. Another common problem occurs when both seminar and convo credit are given. In those cases you have to get scanned twice - once for each type of credit.

If you still have concerns a week after the event email the seminar coordinator for your major. They are listed at the bottom of the www.curbcollege.info website. Make sure you include all the requested information. If you leave this information out we will not be able to respond to your request.

Q. I attended an event but forgot to get my card scanned. Can I still get credit? A; No. You must have your card properly scanned AT THE EVENT to get credit.

Q. I have a very busy schedule and can't make it to showcases or writers nights. Can I just go to five seminars instead? A: No. Seminars cannot be substituted for showcases or vice versa.

THE MOUSE THAT ROARED

Dorothy Campbell, April 24 at 11:00 a.m. MBC 100

Once upon a time, a quiet portion of the music world was known as Music Publishing. The publishers … good, bad, and the ugly, managed the monetary element of music publishing. One well-heeled publisher explained his job to me as this: He goes to the post box; he picks up his check; he goes to the bank; and he gives anyone on his way home a great big smile. It was an easy way to make money.

The INSIDER'S VIEW -- "THE BELMONT KENNEDYS"

Wednesday, February 25th
10:00am at MPAC
MBU/EIS/SNG 4000 credit available
www.curbcollege.info

On Wednesday, Feb. 25, Belmont University and the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business will welcome to the Insider's View stage the talented Kennedy family. The Kennedys-Jerry, Gordon, Bryan and Shelby-have all significantly impacted the music industry. Jerry, father of the Kennedy clan, spent more than three decades successfully playing guitar, producing records and working in Mercury Records' A&R department, eventually becoming vice president of Mercury Records' Nashville division in 1968 and later starting his own company, which produced the Statler Brothers among others. Eldest brother Gordon is an accomplished songwriter/performer, with album cuts on some of today's top-selling records, including Eric Clapton's "Change the World" which won a Grammy for "Song of the Year" in 1996. Bryan began his industry career plugging songs for his father, learning successful songwriting skills along leading to several hits on Garth Brooks records, including three No. 1 radio hits, "Good Ride Cowboy," "Beaches of Cheyenne," and "American Honky Tonk Bar Association." Youngest brother Shelby served as a key A&R man for Lyric Street records, directing the likes of Aaron Tippon, Rascal Flatts and SheDaisy, and later as Associate Director of Writer Relations at BMI. His credentials also include several years as a song plugger and numerous production, songwriting and studio background vocalist credits. Shelby now served as Sr. VP/COO of Cherry Heart Music. An accomplished songwriter, Kennedy received an ASCAP Most Performed Country Song Award for writing and publishing Reba's hit song, "I'm A Survivor." All three of the Kennedy brothers attended Belmont. Shelby, a 1985 alum, also serves as a professor in the Curb College.

Kevin Liles' rise from intern at Def Jam Records to Executive Vice President of Warner Music Group--is legendary in the music industry. >From an unpaid internship in 1991, Liles soared though the ranks to become President of Def Jam Music Group in 1998 at the tender age of 30. By the end of his tenure at the label, the Def Jam brand name had been embraced by all media for delivering all things hip hop. Insider's View Seminar with Derek Sivers, Founder/President CDBaby

Come meet Derek Sivers at the next Insider's View on Monday, February 28th at 10am in MPAC!

derek_sivers.jpg

Derek Sivers is the founder, president, and sole programmer behind CD Baby, independent music distribution, and HostBaby, web hosting for musicians. Full-time musician since 18, he started CD Baby in 1998 knowing nothing but basic HTML, and self-taught himself just enough PHP and SQL to get by as the site grew. A hopeless learning addict, who's endlessly fascinated with the technical/programming/design process, Derek spends most of his time inventing and re-inventing the code behind his growing company's websites. Still a relative newbie among programmers, he'd appreciate any tips and advice you could give him.
