WANT TO BE HEARD? YOUR VOICE CAN HELP IMPROVE THE CURB COLLEGE!

Do you have a suggestion or idea on how to improve the curriculum, external programs, or anything else involved with the Curb College? On Monday, October 26th at 6pm, there will be a discussion forum held for each CEMB major in Massey Rooms 100, 103, 200A, 203B, and 414. These forums will feature keynote CEMB professors but will be entirely student-driven, and will allow students to give suggestions on how to improve the Curb College.
All forums will be held in Massey Business Center...

HANSON'S "TAKE THE WALK" TOUR - OCT. 27TH

Join the band HANSON on their "Walk Around The World Tour," hosted at Belmont by UNITED:FOR CHANGE. Participants will walk one mile from the Bell Tower at Belmont to Vanderbilt (barefoot is optional). Every mile walked will raise funds to support one of five causes that will make a difference, with one dollar donated by the Take The Walk campaign for each walker. The band will educate students on the issues surrounding The Walk and help connect them with existing efforts on campus (i.e. UNITED: FOR CHANGE & Blood:Water Mission). HANSON will be promoting & signing copies of "Take The Walk," which tells the story of individuals taking action to fight poverty and AIDS in Africa through vivid imagery and personal account from HANSON's own experiences. The sale of each book will raise funds to benefit all five causes on TakeTheWalk.net. A short acoustic performance will be given at the conclusion of The Walk at Vanderbilt. Registration starts at 12:15pm with the walk to start at 1pm." 1 Personal/Professional Growth Convocation credit will be given to all participants.

ASCAP WRITERS' NIGHT, 10/20, 6:00pm CURB CAFE

Join us Tuesday night at 6pm in the Curb Café for the first ASCAP Writers' Night of the semester. This week's show will feature professional songwriter Dickey Lee, who has penned hits for Kenny Rogers, Merle Haggard and James Taylor as well as student songwriters Clare Dunn, Jenna Rickards and Jordan Hull. (4000 showcase credit available.)

MBU 4000/SNG 4000 SEMINAR WITH TODD BRABEC, MONDAY, OCTOBER 19 @ 10:00 IN MASSEY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

Todd Brabec is the co-author of "Music Money and Success" and for most of his career was Executive Vice President and Director of Worldwide Membership for ASCAP. He will be speaking on "Music Licensing and Royalties In A Changing World" and topics will include multiple platform content licenses, user generated content, webcasting and downloads, mashups, Guitar Hero and other current licensing issues.

AN EVENING OF THE ARTS WITH SONGWRITERS TOM DOUGLAS & SCOTT ROLEY, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15 @ 7:00, CHRIST COMMUNITY CHURCH, 1215 HILLSBORO ROAD, FRANKLIN, TN

Tom Douglas is an award-winning songwriter whose songs have been recorded by Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum and others. Tom is also an adjunct professor of Songwriting at Belmont. Scott Roley is the Senior Pastor at Christ Community and is also a singer/songwriter who has released eight albums.

COPYRIGHT & TRADMARK IN 60 MINUTES OR LESS

Digital Nashville (a local community organization of digital media professionals) is hosting an educational presentation entitled "Copyright and Trademark in 60 Minutes or Less" that will be presented by Robin Mitchell Joyce on the Belmont campus this Wednesday, Oct 14th. The event is free and open to all Belmont students. The event will be from 5:30p - 7:00p and will be held in the Frist Lecture Hall, located on the 4th floor of the Inman Health Sciences Building.

SLAY PUBLISHED IN TENNESSEE BAR ASSOCIATION

Cheryl L. Slay, Asst. Professor of Music Business, recently published an article for the Tennessee Bar Association’s Entertainment & Sports Law Section news entitled “Intellectual Property Rights in Games & Toys.” The article discusses recent intellectual property court cases and developments within this sector of the entertainment industry.

Tuesday, Oct. 13 - An Evening at the Hotel California with Don Felder / Late Night Performance with The Wailers. The closing party of IEBA will be a night to remember with Don Felder, formerly of the Eagles and the legendary Wailers. Don't miss these iconic artists under one roof! The party starts at 7:30 PM in the Hilton Downtown ballroom.

ASCAP AT THE RYMAN - 2009 COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS TICKETS AVAILABLE

ASCAP Nashville is graciously providing 100 tickets to the ASCAP AT THE RYMAN - 2009 Country Music Awards for interested CEMB students, faculty & staff.

Those interested in attending MUST sign up for tickets in the Curb College Dean's office beginning Tuesday, October 6th. Students, faculty and staff may request no more than 2 tickets. Tickets will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

Tickets will be available for pick up in the Curb College Dean's Office beginning Friday, October 16th from 11am until 4:00pm and on Monday, October 19th from 8:00am until 12pm. Tickets MUST be picked up by noon on Monday, October 19th. More information regarding dress, etc., will be available when you pick up your tickets.

MELE OPERATORS NEEDED

The MELE program, a cooperative classroom partnership with Hawaii
Community College, is in need of additional classroom technicians immediately. Duties include: establishing the teleconferencing connection to Hawaii, operating cameras and recording equipment, and troubleshooting related A/V issues as they arise in assigned classes. Knowledge of signal flow and basic computer skills are required. Training is included and positions are paid student worker positions that may begin immediately depending your availability. If you are a songwriter, artist, performer, novelist, painter, budding entertainment business or entrepreneur, artist manager, or student with an arts/entertainment business legal question or situation, you are invited to attend the FREE CEMB/ Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts Legal Clinic on October 7, 2009 from 4:30-7:30p.m. in the Massey 4th floor boardroom. Lawyers will be available to answer your questions about entertainment contracts, copyrights and trademarks, or other issues related to entertainment and entrepreneurial careers.
