EIS 4990. WORKING AS AN AGENT IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY - Taught by Mark Block - Prerequisites: EIS 1220, EIS 2310. How to start a full service agency representing musicians, producers, actors, models, TV hosts, make up artists, photographers, directors and sports celebrities. This class will help a student learn and understand how to survive and establish themselves as a reputable and selective agent working hand and hand with the music industry in videos, promotions and in the commercial and film industries. In a fast growing industry students will get first hand experience on how to groom their clients and prepare them for a successful and diverse career in the industry.

EIS 3900. AMERICAN WORLDVIEW IN THE ENTERTAINEMNT INDUSTRY: - Taught Reed Arvin - Prerequisites: EIS 1220, EIS 2310. A study of how worldview, ethics, morality and religious faith inform the entertainment media. Film and TV, books, videogames, and other entertainment careers are examined and compared with significant philosophical and religious ideas. Through lectures, research and classroom discussion students will develop a personal moral guide to help them navigate future work in the entertainment.
EIS 4900. CAREER CREATIVITY IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY: - Taught by Reed Arvin
Prerequisites: EIS 1220, EIS 2310. The ability to sustain highly creative and competitive work over a lifetime requires preparation and commitment. This class will examine the elements of creativity relating to the entertainment industry in the context of three ideas: the wellspring of thought, the execution and perfection of the entertainment concept, and "shipping" or finishing the work. Burnout, writer's block, procrastination and self-defeating behaviors are all addressed. Each student will create a statement of "life creativity" and complete a finished work during the semester.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR BEATLES TRIBUTE

January 30th 2009 marks the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' famous London rooftop concert made popular in the movie "Let it Be." Nashville's own tribute band,The WannaBeatles, will be giving a special concert atop a downtown Nashville building at 12:00 noon to honor this milestone occasion.

Volunteers are needed in the following areas:
For Load-in on Friday, January 30th 9:00 AM For Load-out 2:00 PM
Location: Rippy's, 429 Broadway (5th &Broadway) (some heavier equipment)
2 or 3 volunteers requested

Why Can't Music Be Free?

Do you download music legally or illegally? Do you think music should be free? Does how you obtain your music affect anyone else? Who gets paid when you buy music? Have you been looking for a great networking opportunity with professionals in the music industry?

Join Owen AMPED at Vanderbilt University for an evening with music industry giants as we explore issues surrounding major changes in the music business model. Topics to be addressed include: general overview of music downloading, the traditional revenue streams and how they’re changing, and who is really being affected by music piracy. The panel will be followed by a reception with light snacks and beverages.

NEW COURSE: MBU 3999.02 ACKLEN WEB CONTENT PRODUCTION & MANAGEMENT

Students interested in a new 2 hour course in web content management and production, MBU 3999.02 Acklen Web Content Production & Management. This course is a newly structured learning practicum for web content development and management. Students will develop and manage digital content in coordination with MBU 3630 (Record Company Operations), MBU 4630 (Concert Promotions), and Indiebandhub.com. Course involves one hour a week lecture (Monday 4PM in MBC 203B) then self assigned lab components at 34 Music Sq.
East. Internet tracking and marketing strategies will be researched along with content development including basic graphic, video, and audio development. Students will initially receive hands on training, then shift to content creation and management of artist content for Indiebandhub.com and other projects. This interdisciplinary course explores the applications of emerging and traditional music delivery and marketing systems within a commercial application environment.
