Panel of Producers and Engineers

Featuring:
Pat McMakin: General Manager of Sony Tree Studios, recording engineer, record producer and songwriter. Has worked with a wide variety of artists including: Ray Charles, Dolly Parton, George Jones, Brooks and Dunn, Lonestar, Brenda Lee and N'Sync.

Reid Shippen: Prominent mixer, producer and engineer for the past 10 years. Shippen has mixed 3 Grammy-winning {and many Grammy nominated} records across various genres including: rock, pop, country, r&b, hip-hop, classical, folk and metal. Has worked with Relient K, Backstreet Boys, Third Day, Marc Broussard, Switchfoot, and Patty Griffin.

Ben Folds: Multi-talented Ben Folds is best known as the leader of the trio Ben Folds Five. He brings his artistic talent to the conversation as an Independent Producer, not only for his solo work, but also for William Shatner and "Weird Al" Yankovich. In addition he has expertise in the production of soundtracks including "I Am Sam" and "Over the Hedge."

Event Manager
Duties Include:
• attends to artist or event specific requests
• assigns event managers to events
• coordinates with sound reinforcement
• handles staging and concert fees
• manages venue budget
• handles myspace promotion including “Top 8” rotations, weekly messages to friends, and event evites for big shows
• creates a database of performers/artist managers
• places follow up calls to artists after each show
• assists with publicity

Experience Preferred: Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, Event Management Experience, Courses related to Event Management

Booking Coordinator
Duties Include:
• receives requests for shows
• seeks outside acts
• books shows
• requests advance sheets and posts on calendar
• enters all schedule and contact info into calendar
• ensures that myspace calendar is up to date
• maintains hard copy files of all advance sheets
• maintain bic calendar requests
• checks voicemails
• takes messages

Experience Preferred: Familiarity with yahoo calendar and Microsoft Office Applications, Courses related to Concert Booking and Promotion

Culture and Arts Convo Opportunity

You are invited to attend a lecture on the "Emerging Underground Chinese Rock Scene." Presentation by Martin Atkins-Owner of Invisible Records/Chicago-formerly drummer with Sex-Pistols, Killing Joke, Nine Inch Nails, & Ministry Pigface.

Martin Atkins is an "artist of international repute" with five years with Public Image Ltd (the band Johnny Rotten formed after the Sex Pistols), American Bandstand, Killing Joke, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry Pigface (featuring flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and 300 others). He has owned and operated Invisible records for 19 years with over 350 releases with distribution through Caroline and most recently Ryko. Recently returning from an extended trip to China, he has recorded bands, signed bands, recorded music, recorded a documentary he will present on that as part of a larger theme of the "Emgerging Underground Music Scene." Next Monday, February 12, the CEMB Administrative Offices will be closed after 11am. Staff members will be attending an off campus retreat. Offices will also be closed the morning of Monday, February 26 for staff training.

From Belmont Alumni to YouTube Winners

Belmont Alumni, Matt Goetz and Michael Green, will meet with students to discuss their multi-media success with their band Greenland and their winning a national YouTube DIY music video competition. In addition to winning the coveted prize from Gibson and Epiphone, Greenland was flown to New York to appear on Good Morning America, were featured on the front page of YouTube.com, and were chosen among YouTube's Top 10 videos of 2006. All of this from a music video they created in just 3 weeks with less than $100.

Goetz and Green will meet with Belmont students to showcase their video and lecture on their experiences, their debt to technology and Internet communities, and how their education at Belmont University helped them to transition into seizing opportunity in the industry.
