Telemarketing calls to cell phone numbers have been a possibility for some time. As with most incoming calls to a cell phone, telemarketing calls can count against the minutes the cell phone owner’s plan and could possibly result in the cell phone owner having to pay for minutes used by unwanted calls from telemarketers.
The FCC maintains a national “Do Not Call” registry for residential and cellular telephone numbers, and commercial telemarketing calls to numbers on this list are prohibited. Information on this program is available on the FCC’s web site at www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/tcpa.html. This site includes a link where you can register your numbers on line. You can also go directly to the registration page, www.donotcall.gov, or call 888-382-1222 from your cell phone to register your cell phone number on this “do-not-call” list.
