I returned a call to a parent whose son plans to attend Belmont next fall. The parent had a few questions about purchasing a laptop for his son. He shared a couple of tricks that may be useful to everyone if you are in the market for a Dell PC or laptop.
1. First, remember the phrase "Deal of the Week". On Dell's web site if you type in the phrase, Deal of the Week, in the search box at the top of the Dell page, you will bring up a hidden Dell web page that has several heavily discounted pachages for laptops and PCs.
The savings look substantial if you stick with the packages that are offered (meaning don't customize--- the savings may disappear!).
2. If you open an account with Dell, you can get another 2% off your purchase. I am not advocating credit cards, but this could save you another few bucks. This parent charged the purchase to the card and was able to pay interest free for 6 months.
3. The parent got a $50 coupon from the Dell salesman at the Mall kiosk. So, when in doubt ask the salesman at the mall for a coupon. can't hurt.
4. He also got free shipping!
For the final total this parent got an Inspiron for a total of $1006 before tax. Not bad for a $1500 system.
Good luck on purchasing your next PC or laptop from Dell, and remember the Deal of the week.
