Students have a view of the Nashville skyline from fourth and fifth floor suites in Dickens Hall. The ribbon cutting ceremony for the new residence hall is 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17.

College of Law faculty and staff began moving into the Randall and Sadie Baskin Center this week. The Baskin Center's 10 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Aug. 21 will be followed by a reception, building tours and a moot court.

Belmont student Colleen Arends attended two women’s soccer matches in London at the 2012 Olympics (Great Britain versus New Zealand and Brazil versus Cameroon). Arends is taking the class Olympic Games: Sport Performance, History and Administrations through the Cooperative Center for Study Abroad. The course focuses on training principles and conditioning for elite performance as well as factors that affect performance in specific sports. She also has learned to play cricket, watched the Olympic torch relay and met the Great Britain volleyball team and Malayasian cycling team.  Click here to read more.

SIFE Welcomes Trophy to Campus
Belmont’s SIFE team came back to campus this week to celebrate the arrival of the national championship trophy to campus. Belmont SIFE will compete at the international SIFE World Cup Sept. 30-Oct. 2 in Washington, D.C. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is already confirmed to host the event. Prior to the World Cup, the team is presenting to numerous businesses and organizations, including Tractor Supply (Nashville), Home Depot (Atlanta), Wells Fargo (Des Moines and San Francisco) and Dollar General (Nashville).

Belmont Board of Trust member and HCA President/CFO Milton Johnson and his wife Denice attended a brief plaque unveiling this week in the newly named Milton and Denice Johnson Lobby, located on the first floor of McWhorter Hall. The naming commemorates the couple’s pledge for a capital gift to McWhorter Hall and to establish the Sarah T. Johnson Memorial Endowed Scholarship for academically excellent students who demonstrate financial need in the business school.
