Golf Tournament Fundraiser Scheduled for Injured Alumnus
Matt Harvie, a 1988 Belmont business graduate and former tennis standout, suffered a traumatic brain injury in June 2008 when he fell backwards off a golf cart. Following several surgeries and a month in a coma, Matt was moved to a rehabilitation center in Atlanta to re-learn many basic skills that were impacted by his injuries (talking, walking, eating, etc.). Last fall, he was released to go home from the rehab facility but still faces significant daily outpatient therapy. The continued expense and logistics of outpatient therapy is a challenge to manage, which is why Matt's friends and family have organized a golf tournament as a fundraiser. The event will be held at the Hermitage President’s Reserve Golf Course on Sat., Sept. 26 (1 p.m. shotgun start). The format is a 4-man scramble with traditional prizes for longest drive and closest to the pin, and everyone will have the option to swing for a $50,000 hole in one! If you can’t participate in person, please consider a donation. Details on participation and/or donations can be found on the entry form.
