Summer Gardening Opportunities at the Belmont Community Garden
The Belmont Community Garden seeks to serve Belmont and the local community through provision of individual garden plots, outreach spaces and areas of solitude. The garden, located at 1510 Compton, next to the Max Kade House, is currently under development. The mission of the garden is to model and share best practices in practical and organic gardening. This spring and summer the Belmont community garden will be offering two unique experiences for students, staff and faculty. If you are interested in either planting and maintaining your own garden on this site or assisting with the larger community garden, please see additional information below.
1) Co-op Gardens: Single garden plots are available for development by individuals or groups. These plots will be assigned on a first-come basis. Typical plot size will be 4’ x 8’ and will be ready to plant by May 2. Requirements are that you will maintain your garden May – September 2009 and that you will agree to use only organic supplements. Assistance and resources will be available for garden-newbies.
2) Community Service: Volunteers are needed to assist with preparation and planting of beds and the building of raised beds. The tentative schedule and volunteer dates are listed below:
Sat., April 18, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.: Preparation of beds and building raised beds
Sat., April 25, 1 p.m.-5 p.m.: Planting community and individual beds
Sat., May 2, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.: Planting community and individual beds
