TV/Film Composer Speaks to Curb College Students
carolynjonathantim.jpgThe Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business partnered with SESAC March 3 for the second SESAC Session at Ocean Way Nashville’s Studio A Lounge. The special guest speaker was TV and film composer Jonathan Wolff, who is well known for composing music for "Seinfeld," "Will & Grace" and "Caroline in the City." During the hour-long event, students were able to have an open dialogue with Wolff, learning firsthand about his extensive career and the working relationship between a composer and SESAC. SESAC Sessions are hour-long events designed to bring SESAC writers and executives together with Curb College students. Alexander Announced as Vice Chair of TNCPE Board
Dr. Joe Alexander, associate dean of Massey School of Business, was recently announced as the Vice Chair of the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence (TNCPE) 2009 Board of Directors. TNCPE is an economic development organization that provides regional organizations access to low-cost performance improvement services and education.

Martin Completes Overdubs at Ocean Way
SteveMartin.JPGActor Steve Martin recently completed overdubs for his new bluegrass album The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo at Ocean Way Studios Nashville. The album, which features 15 original tracks written by Martin along with special appearances by guest artists, was released exclusively by Amazon.com in January. The CD is scheduled for broad release by Rounder Records on May 26.

Young Published in Accounting Journal

Halle Participates in Physical Therapy Summit
JohnHalle.jpgBy invitation, Dr. John S. Halle, professor and associate dean of the School of Physical Therapy, recently participated in the first Physical Therapy and Society Summit (PASS) held in Leesburg, Virginia. Hosted by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the mission of the event was to determine areas of opportunity to empower physical therapists to be leaders in: 1) integrating innovative technologies and practice models, and 2) establishing collaborative multidisciplinary partnerships that address current, evolving and future societal health care needs. Assumptions associated with the meeting were that from a policy standpoint, healthcare in the United States is at a tipping point, and physical therapy as a profession has a clear role to play in the policies developed in the future.

Renfroe Named to NABC All-District Team
Belmont University men's basketball senior Alex Renfroe (Hermitage, Tenn.) has been named to the 2009 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District Team. This marks the latest in a series of honors for Renfroe following one of the top individual seasons in Belmont history. Last week, the 6-2 point guard was named 2009 Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year and was selected to the 2009 Atlantic Sun Conference All-Tournament Team. Click here for more on this story.

Brown Honored with Scaife Visionary Award
wesanastasiatonylarawn.jpgOn Mon., March 2, renowned producer, keyboardist and label executive Tony Brown was honored at the Musicians Hall of Fame as this year’s recipient of the Cecil Scaife Visionary Award. Each year, the Scaife family honors an individual whose contributions have helped future generations achieve careers in the music industry on behalf of Cecil Scaife, who worked with Robert E. Mulloy to spearhead Belmont University’s music business program. That program has now grown into the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business (CEMB). Mike Curb received the 2008 award in recognition of his substantial support of Belmont University and the music industry at large. Proceeds from the ceremonies fund The Cecil Scaife Music Business Scholarship Endowment which benefits CEMB students.

Business Students Inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma
Belmont University’s Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma recently inducted 48 new members from the School of Business Administration, Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business and Massey Graduate School of Business. Only business students who earn the distinction of “the Best in Business” during their academic careers qualify for membership. Beta Gamma Sigma is the business school equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa in liberal arts education. pop.belmont.edu.jpg

These new members join an expanding worldwide network of more than 600,000 outstanding business professionals who have earned recognition through lifetime membership in Beta Gamma Sigma. Students ranking in the top 10 percent of the baccalaureate and top 20 percent of graduate programs at schools accredited by AACSB International (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) are eligible for this invitation. Beta Gamma Sigma membership is truly an international honor, and these outstanding Belmont students have received the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive.
