United: For Change is an effort geared toward four charities to effect change in our world. These charities are focused around children who are in need of basic supplies for survival. This concert event is the kickoff for the semester-long initiative.

Come together for video clips from the Civil Rights Era. Following this, the group will disperse to other venues for other events honoring the memory of Dr. King and the Civil Rights movement.

A lecture presented by Dr. Dennis Dickerson from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Dickerson specializes in American labor history, the history of the U.S. civil rights movement and African American religious history.

Rev. Brenda Salter McNeil is the author of The Heart of Racial Justice: How Soul Change Leads to Social Change and A Credible Witness: Reflections on Power, Evangelism and Race. She founded and directs both a ministry and a leadership-development organization devoted to racial and ethnic reconciliation and training.

ASCAP Writer’s Night
The opening ASCAP Writer's Night of 2009 will feature student writers with a guest appearance by Combustion Music’s writer Ashley Gorley. This will not be Gorley’s first appearance at Belmont; Gorley is a 1999 Music Business alumnus and is also an adjunct professor at the university. Gorley has had his hand in some of country music’s greatest hits, such as Carrie Underwood’s, “Don’t Forget to Remember Me” and Trace Adkins’ “You’re Gonna Miss This.”
