2008 Faculty and Staff Campaign
The 2008 Faculty and Staff Campaign kicks off April 14 and runs through May 16. Now is a great time to renew your current payroll deduction pledge or create a new one. Every gift given by faculty and staff members directly benefits our students and our university. Check your mailboxes during the coming weeks for a red envelope with more information. Congratulations to Chaney Distinguished Professor Nominees
Congratulations to the finalists for the 2008 Chaney Distinguished Professor Award! This year we received a multitude of nominations coming from the entire Belmont community. The winner will be announced during the 2008 Spring Commencement. Please extend your hearty congratulations to: Marty Bell, School of Religion; Joe Byrne, Honors; and Paul Gatrell, Theatre and Dance Department.
The Virginia M. Chaney Distinguished Professor Award goes to a faculty member for outstanding classroom presentation, high quality advising and significant contributions to church and civic activities. It goes to a faculty member who best represents the vision of the university to be a “premier teaching institution.” It is generously endowed by Frank and Carolyn Sheffield.
Scholarship and Awards Day Convocation to Be Held April 21
The Belmont campus community is invited to celebrate the academic accomplishments of our students on Mon., April 21 at the annual Scholarship and Awards Day Convocation at 10 a.m. in Massey Concert Hall. President Robert Fisher will deliver opening remarks, and Dr. Richard Hoffman, the 2006-2007 Chaney Distinguished Professor, will present the honors address. University Writing, Service and Leadership Awards will be presented. Fall 2007 Deans List students and Retiring Faculty will be recognized. In honor of this occasion, all campus offices will close from 9:45-11 a.m. For those offices that must remain open, supervisors are asked to make arrangements so that as many staff as possible may attend.
2008 CMT Music Awards Parking and Street Impact
On Monday, April 14, Belmont University’s Curb Event Center will proudly host the 2008 CMT Music Awards, an international broadcast sure to be enjoyed by millions of music fans. The university is honored to have the awards held on the Belmont campus. Although Belmont and CMT are working to limit the impact in the immediate area, parking restrictions and road closures will be necessary as well as the temporary closure of a few areas of campus. Dell to Host Nashville-Area Recycling Event April 12
Dell is offering residents of the Nashville/Middle Tennessee area a free computer recycling event, Sat., April 12, at Dell’s Nashville campus, near Nashville International Airport. The event is being hosted in celebration of Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 25).
The collection event will accept any make or model of computers and related equipment, including monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, mice and laptops. Gaming consoles and mobile entertainment devices are also accepted. Electronic items NOT accepted include: televisions, stereo equipment, cell phones, appliances, etc. All plastics and metals are recycled, and other materials, including heavy metals, are properly disposed. Participants should remove all data from their computer's hard drive and any removable media such as disks, PC cards, flash drives, CD-ROMs. Drop off is free. The first 1,200 participants will receive a tree sapling ready for planting.
Does Your Home Have a Termite Infestation?
Dr. Steve Murphree (Biology Department) has been conducting research on the Sentricon Termite Colony Enhancement System® since 1996 on campus and at homes of Belmont faculty/staff/students in the greater Nashville area. This service is free for the duration of the study. Contact him about using your home in the current 12-18 month study if you have had a swarm or found live termites in your home in the past 12 months; or your home has not been chemically treated for termites in the past five years; or you currently are not under contract with a pest control company; and you are willing to sign a confidentiality and release form.
