Student-Athletes to Celebrate NCAA National Student-Athlete Day
Belmont’s 200+ student-athletes will celebrate NCAA National Student-Athlete Day on Mon., April 7 with a “Thank You” luncheon (Barbecue & all the Trimmings) for the athletic administration, staff, coaches and trainers in the athletic office complex. The event is organized and coordinated through our campus SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee). Each year, in celebration of this day, the student-athletes do something to “give back” to the community. Last year they honored all faculty members by delivering a gift and thank you note to each faculty member’s office.

Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network News
People who are depressed, even those considering suicide, don’t always state the problem outright. But it’s worth listening for the signs--according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide is the third-leading cause of death for people aged 18-25. Furthermore, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, estimates that for every one death by suicide, there are anywhere from eight to 25 suicide attempts.
The Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network’s website (www.tspn.org/document.htm) offers a list of common warnings signs, as well as links to several suicide prevention resources. For people in a crisis situation, emergency care should be sought immediately by contacting the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255) to speak with a crisis intervention counselor.
