It's All Belmont To Me - Belmont FYI Feature Profile of the Week

Walk the Talk

mpinter.jpgThis week’s Belmont FYI feature profile of the week has been working for the university since 1989. Dr. Mike Pinter was nominated for the fifth guiding principle, “Walk the Talk,” for his work as Professor of Mathematics and, for this year, his appointment as Interim Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences.

Though his professional interests include quantitative reasoning across the curriculum, discrete mathematics and the pedagogy of mathematics instruction, Dr. Pinter acknowledges that his favorite part of the job comes from his relationships on campus. "I primarily enjoy the interactions with my students when I’m teaching. As interim dean this year, I’m enjoying the opportunity to work closely with faculty and staff across campus and to help solve a broad array of problems."

Offering genuine hospitality to colleagues and students serves as both an aspiration of Mike's regular interactions and a significant part of his understanding of what it means to "Walk the Talk." "'Walk the Talk' means many things to me, but maybe most simply put, it’s to have what I think, say and do be completely intertwined as seamlessly as possible, with each component (thinking, saying, doing) influencing the others... When I actually offer true hospitality to others at Belmont, I would feel that I’m walking the talk."
