Sign up for TEAM MASSEY in the Dragon Boat Race

dragon boat.jpgJoin the TEAM MASSEY effort in the 2009 Dragon Boat Race, August 22nd on the Cumberland River to benefit the Cumberland River Compact.

Deadline to sign up is August 14th; email teresawade@comcast.net for more information and to register.

Several Massey professors have offered their support and Dr. Finley will be our boat drummer! We still need a few students, alumni, friends or family members to fill the team.

Details below...

Dragon Boat racing differs from other team sports in that no one person on the team is more important than another. Winning a Dragon Boat race hinges on how well a team works together at paddling in sync, and how well each paddler perfects the stroke technique. The popularity of Dragon Boat racing has exploded, with an estimated 50 million people participating in the sport around the world each year.

For more info and clips of past dragon boat races: www.nashvilledragonboat.com.

You’ll love this event and race site. Riverfront Park located at the foot of Broadway in downtown Nashville is the perfect venue for both paddlers and spectators. A large viewing area and “paddlers row” are within walking distance to top restaurants, snack bars, parking, souvenir shops, Country Music Hall of Fame, the Ryman Auditorium, and many other Music City attractions. So bring the whole family and plan on spending the day!

Activities
• The “dotting the eye” of the dragon ceremony will kick off the races on Saturday morning at 8 a.m.
• Throughout the day, music and arts will be a part of the festival. Check the program for times and places.
• The races will run approximately every 20 minutes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Winners will be announced and honored during the closing ceremonies in the Main Festival Tent, starting at 5 p.m.
• Food and other vendors will be present at various locations throughout the day.

Join our TEAM MASSEY effort in the boat or as a cheerleader on the river bank!

Massey School Hosts The Seven Revolutions Initiative

peterson_erik_large.jpgOn Thursday, April 13th, the Jack C. Massey Graduate School of Business, in conjunction with the Society of International Business Fellows, and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce is bringing to Nashville a highly acclaimed program: The Seven Revolutions Initiative.

What will the world look like in 2025? Here to answer that question will be Erik R. Peterson, Senior Vice President at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a non-partisan and non-profit Washington D.C. based think tank. Mr. Peterson is Director of the CSIS Global Strategy Institute, a program dedicated to research on long-range strategic issues and to developing innovative educational programs aimed at leaders in government, business and other fields.

Mr. Peterson will present the Seven Revolutions Initiative. The Seven Revolutions identifies and analyzes the distinct and driving forces of change that will transform the planet and govern our interaction. The presentation addresses the seven areas where change is expected to be the most “revolutionary”:

• Population
• Strategic Resource Management
• Technological Innovation and Diffusion
• The Development and Dissemination of Information and Knowledge
• Economic Integration
• The Nature and Mode of Conflict
• What is characterized as the “Challenge of Governance”

This program has been presented to high-level business, government, academic and NGO leaders throughout the country, receiving excellent reviews from those in attendance. This promises to be a provocative and informative discussion. For additional information on the program and sponsoring organizations go to www.csis.org or www.sibf.org.

This thought provoking presentation will take place on Thursday, April 13th at 8:00 a.m. (continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m.) in the Belmont University Curb Event Center Grand Atrium.

YP Nashville Day

Thursday, November 17, 2005
Nashville Public Library

Nashville Young Professionals Day is an initiative of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and the 20/20 Leadership Alliance. The goal of this event is to connect young professionals to diverse opportunities for networking, professional development and community involvement.

As a retention strategy for Nashville-area companies, young professionals who feel connected in their community are more likely to remain in the region and at their current places of employment.
More than 200 Nashville-area young professionals are expected to attend this inaugural event. Demographics of attendees will include men and women ages 22-39 who work in a variety of Nashville-area industries, including accounting, finance, healthcare, hospitality, music and many more.

20/20 Leadership Alliance is the premier coalition of young professional organizations connecting, influencing and shaping the future of the Nashville community. The 20/20 Leadership Alliance is comprised of Nashville's five regional YP organizations: Nashville Area Junior Chamber of Commerce, Junior League of Nashville, SOLID, Urban League Young Professionals, and Young Leaders Council.

Dr. Bob Fisher, president of Belmont University, is the president of the Chamber of Commerce. This would be an excellent opportunity for both current students and alumni.
