Join Massey in Bowling for Kids’ Sake!
On Saturday, November 14th, from 2-4 p.m., Massey graduate students and faculty will be teaming up for a fun and rewarding evening of bowling to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee.
Bowl For Kids' Sake is the organization's largest annual fundraising event. Not only will you help advance the mission of a worthy organization, but it will also be an excellent opportunity to network with fellow students and show support for the Belmont Bigs program. We’ve invited undergraduate “Bigs” and their “Littles” to join us as well!

Big Brothers Big Sisters is the leader in one-to-one mentoring, with over a century of proven success in creating positive friendships that benefit children, volunteers, families, neighborhoods and communities!
Belmont is a long-time supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters through its Belmont Bigs Program, matching undergraduates, as mentors, to children in Metro public schools.

Massey Students and CAT employees help build for Habitat
A group of Massey students and faculty joined several employees from Cat Finance on September 19 as part of a Habitat for Humanity build team in north Nashville. Volunteers arrived at 6:45 a.m. for instructions and check-in and worked throughout the day on three different houses, with tasks ranging from installing siding to interior blocking and insulation. A few volunteers even got to help raise interior and exterior walls on a nearby house where helpers were in short supply.
To read more about the day, click below...
Other than a few blisters, some mild sunburn, and what were undoubtedly some sore muscles, everyone came through the experience without injury. We even learned about some hidden construction skills and experience from our student population and had ample opportunity to exercise our math skills (outside of FIN 6100).
In the end, everyone also made a lot of new friends as we all helped in building a house for a single mom and her 5-year old daughter--a home that should last them for many years to come.
This event was the third in a series of service events organized in 2009 by the Massey Graduate Council to provide graduate students and alumni an opportunity to give back to the community as well as network with other students and alumni. Pictured are Massey and CAT volunteers along with the soon to be proud owner of her new home.

Ronald McDonald House Thanks Massey Volunteers!
On July 11th the families residing at the Ronald McDonald House were treated to a barbeque-style lunch, compliments of volunteers comprised of Massy students, alumni, faculty, friends and family. Ronald McDonald House relies almost entirely on donations and volunteer support for its daily operations. An important part of volunteer support is the supply of meals.
Families from all over the country stay at the House while their sick children receive treatment at one of the area hospitals. Sadly, the Nashville Ronald McDonald House stays full (35 people) most of the time. Fortunately, the House provides a wonderful environment for the families to stay close to their loved ones during a difficult time.
From talking to the residents it seemed everyone really enjoyed the food we provided. Kroger supplied us with 40 pounds of hamburger and side items from the deli. The remainder of the food was purchased through donations from Massey students, Dr. Stan York, and Dr. Joe Alexander. Special thanks go to LaDonna Boyd for baking the cookies, to Russ Cornwall and Brett Printz for manning the grill, and to Eric Jolly for keeping the flames under control!
With 17 volunteers, we were slightly overstaffed (which was a great problem to have!), but with Dr. York’s operational management skills, all went smoothly. On behalf of the residents and staff at Ronald McDonald House, thanks to all the volunteers for making it a great event!
If you would like to learn more about the Ronald McDonald House or to volunteer on an individual basis, you may visit the website at http://www.rmhnashville.com/.
