MBA-Accelerated Program Officially Launched
Earlier yesterday I was pleased to admit our first new student to Massey's innovative MBA-Accelerated program that begins this fall. Our faculty and staff have worked hard this year to prepare for this new cohort of students who will be entering this new full-time MBA program. The curriculum is ideally suited for individuals who are not currently working and who have less than the minimum two years of professional work experience required for admission to our existing MBA-Professional program.
The new program gives us an important new educational product previously missing from our graduate portfolio and allows us to better compete in what has been become an increasingly "crowded" MBA marketplace. The new offering will by no means be a watered-down version of our existing MBA but rather a somewhat more structured and concentrated approach to delivering what will continue to be a high-quality and rigorious academic student experience.
Students in the new program will take their business core courses together in a cohort of 25 that will be delivered during the fall, spring, and summer 10-week sessions. Five-week sessions will include opportunities for pursuing a range of electives, plus the fulfillment of a built-in work experience/internship requirement. To give you a peek at this new schedule, MBA-Accelerated students will begin their program this fall with the following courses in the first 10 week term...
Fall 2009 10-Week Schedule:
MGT 6650 - Organizational Behavior and Management, Mondays, Dr. Jennie Carter Thomas
FIN 6100 - Basic Financial Management, Tuesdays, Dr. John Gonas
MKT 6450 - Advanced Marketing Management, Wednesdays, Dr. Robert Lambert
ACC 6480 - Corporate Financial and Managerial Accounting, Thursdays, Dr. Lee Warren
The fall term will continue with a 5-week session where expectations are for each student to complete two electives in either general business or their chosen field of concentration. MBA-Accelerated students will complete a total of 12 credits during the fall term and enter the spring with an excellent business foundation for enrolling in additional core courses that include: entrepreneurship, international business, leadership, and law and ethics.
Given early interest that is approaching 100 prospect inquiries without any advertising, we expect admission to this new program to be very competitive, especially given we are limiting this first cohort to 25 students. If you know of someone who might be a talented addition to our 2009 MBA-Accelerated class, please encourage them to visit the following link for additional information: http://www.belmont.edu/business/graduatebusiness/index.html
We're also offering a brand new web portal for prospective students to track their progress as they move through the various stages of the application process at BU4U.
By next month I should have additional numbers to report on our enrollments for the summer term. We have already had a record number of applications for the 2009 Summer Accounting Institute and MBA applications are well ahead of last year's figures!

Massey Milers race in Half Marathon
Twelve members of the Massey Milers running group ran in the Country Music half marathon on Saturday, April 25. This was the group’s first public competitive event since forming in January. Everyone enjoyed the run, despite the unseasonably hot temperatures.
The group is enthusiastic about our next group event, the Moon Pie 10 mile run on June 20.

Massey Milers was formed to provide an opportunity for MBA and MACC students and alumni to get to know each other outside of the traditional classroom experience and as a means of enhancing individual wellness. The group currently meets once a week for a group run, along with coordinating other running times to accommodate different schedules throughout the week.
In addition to running, interest has been generated for group bike rides recently. If you would like additional information on this unique networking opportunity, check out the Massey Milers on Google Groups or contact Mindy Craven by email at mindy.craven@vanderbilt.edu.
