Program Update from the Associate Dean

Well, so far so good, as they say. We have had an excellent fall semester to date as we recently concluded the first 10-week session of classes.

best business schools 2008.gif As most of you have heard by now, we were recently notified that The Jack C. Massey Graduate School of Business has once again been named to The Princeton Review's Best Business Schools edition for 2008, giving the program three straight years of being included in this prestigious list. In particular, students surveyed gave high marks to the program for the quality of its accounting and entrepreneurship programs.

Our new faculty are now firmly in place, and having retained our previous group of faculty intact, we are very pleased with the depth and breadth of programs we are now able to deliver. As a result, our graduate curriculum committee is in the process of reviewing two proposals for new concentrations/tracks that we anticipate adding for 2008...

In addition to our current MBA specializations offered (accounting, finance, general business, healthcare business, and music business), we are preparing to add separate study options in entrepreneurship and marketing. Each of these areas is a commonly requested study option in our prospective student information sessions, and with the addition of our recent faculty, we should be in a position to offer excellent coursework in each. In terms of accounting curriculum, faculty are in the midst of evaluating the potential for additional coursework in accounting systems and security.

Please check back in the near future as we continue adding new courses. As alums, I want to remind you of the opportunity to sit in these classes (on a space available basis) for free as you continue to update your skills. contact Melissa Mitchell for more information on auditing classes.

Massey School Annual Fund Update

The Massey School is again soliciting alumni and friend participation for the Annual Fund. Our alumni participation rate (which is a critical factor for external ranking purposes), has grown in each of the past four years and reached an all-time high of 26% this past year. We are hopeful that even more alums will consider making at least a small gift to support this work for the coming year. Donations can be made through our secure website.

Recently, Dean Raines welcomed many alums back to the newly refurbished 3rd floor study area, which was beautifully redecorated with funds raised by alums through the annual fund solicitation. Attendees were also introduced to the new graduate faculty who joined the program this fall.

Nearly 200 alums participated in helping make this upgrade in The Massey School possible, but there is one group who were special in their giving. The following alums made a gift every single year of the past four years toward this project ,and we would like to express an extra measure of appreciation to them at this time. Thank you to each of you who contributed to this tremendous project and in allowing Massey to house a study area with the look and feel of a modern business school.
