Co-Owner and Retired CEO of CarMax, Inc. Visits Belmont

Austin Ligon is the former president and retired CEO of CarMax, Inc., the nation’s leading used-car specialty retailer. CarMax, Inc. is traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Along with the former chairman of Circuit City and current CarMax Chairman Richard Sharp, Mr. Ligon was the co-developer of the CarMax concept and has been integrally involved in the leadership and development of the business since its inception.
Mr. Ligon earned his BA in economics and politics and his MA in economics from the University of Texas. He subsequently earned an MBA from the Yale School of Management. He visited Belmont’s campus on January 15-17, as the Executive-In-Residence. Mr. Ligon attended several classes as a guest speaker during his visit. Also, Mr. Ligon addressed his convocation speech entitled “Learning from Life: You Never Know…”. Mr. Ligon met with several business faculty and students to share his knowledge about business.
