Tax Misery Index

Forbes has released its latest tax misery index. See the details of their report here. Europe continues to be well represented on the list of heavy tax burdens.

Isn't it a little bit facile just to rate on a straight percentage of pay that goes in tax? (Forgive me if I'm wrong, but that's how I'm reading what Forbes have written). For example, I now live in France where, yes, quite a large percentage of my income goes in tax compared to some other countries, but in return I get superb public healthcare, education, etc. etc. etc. - I get GREAT value for money. It's unsurprising that Forbes want to spread the American taxation model across the whole planet, but some of us in Europe think we've got things organised in a better way.
