New Column

This past weekend I started writing a regular column for our local newspaper, the Tennessean. My first column was on moving beyound planning and finding the courage to actually launch a business. Here is a link to that column.

My column is part of a major revamping of the business section for the Tennessean. It will run every other Sunday.

Jeff,
I read your column and it reminded me of a concept that I think I picked up from Jack Welch's approach to annual business planning at GE... I think he called it "planned opportunism" and it meant that he planned on being prepared, as much as possible, for the unexpected opportunities that might present themselves in the coming year. He recognized that you can plan all you want, but, in the end, you need to adjust to meet the market conditions!

Good luck with future editions of your column!

Jeff -

Excellent article! You are right on track that the key is finding the right balance between planning and action. A number of client I help explore getting into their own business use planning as a way to stall taking the step that takes real courage - getting started! I really enjoy your blog! If you don't mind, I will also post a link to your blog from ours at www.MyDreamBiz.net ... Keep up the great work!
