My Take of the President's Address

While the two sides of the aisle seemed to come down in a typical partisan manner on the President's State of the Union, here are a couple of my reactions:

Health Care

We are trying to put band aides on a patient who is bleeding to death. While the proposals made by the President are the best band aides currently being offered, they are just short term fixes to a chronic and possibly fatal problem. The government has gotten too enmeshed in health care since World War II and now we are paying the price -- and it is a steep price, indeed.

Tax Cuts

I am tempted to use the same band aide metaphor here, as well. But I'll be less subtle. The current tax code is beyond repair, has led to corruption in all levels of government, and may be the one thing that could kill the new entrepreneurial economic era we have begun to enter into over the past couple of decades. We need Roundup to kill it, not a little pruning to trim it back since that will only make it grow bigger and stronger. (Is that a better metaphor here than the band aide?)

Energy Policy

Again, it is the federal government that has institutionalized the current energy dependence that we suffer from. Don't blame the American citizens! It has been decades of duplicity between the automotive, the oil and the road construction industries that have locked us in and stifiled any innovation from the market.
