H1N1 Vaccine Available Friday

Health Services has received a new shipment of the H1N1 injectable vaccine and will begin administering it on Fri., Nov. 20 at 9 a.m. in the Teaching Center which is located on the second floor of the Gabhart Student Center. It will be given first-come, first served until the vaccines are gone. There is no charge for the vaccine. For more information on the H1N1 novel flu and vaccine, visit the CDC Web site.

Deadline to Apply for May 2010 Graduation

Attention seniors! Please remember the deadline to apply for May graduation is Mon., Nov. 30. The graduation application is available online via the front page of your BIC account. Please contact your academic advisor or the Registrar's office if you have questions about applying for graduation.

Intramural Racquetball Tournament!

Come out and play in the annual Intramural Racquetball tournament that is being held on December 6. The rosters for this event are due Mon., Nov. 30, and a brief informational meeting will be on Tues., Dec. 1. Please Join the Christmas Toy Drive

Please join Belmont student athletes for the annual Christmas Toy Drive. We are partnering with Youth Engagement Services to collect toys for needy children for Christmas. Donations should be dropped off to Betty Wiseman's (CEC M202) office between now and Dec. 10.

You're Invited to Event Monday with Sen. Bob Corker, Jars of Clay, Dave Barnes and More

U.S. Senator Bob Corker, R-Tenn., second-ranking Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, will hold an event at Belmont University in Nashville on Monday, November 23 to highlight efforts to give millions around the world access to clean water. Corker and Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Illinois, are sponsors of the Water for the World Act, S. 624, which sets a goal of reaching 100 million people with first-time, sustainable access to safe drinking water and sanitation by 2015.

Corker will be joined by Dr. Bob Fisher, President of Belmont University, and:

Jars of Clay, the Grammy award winning band that has launched Blood:Water Mission, a non-profit organization promoting clean blood and water in Africa;

Dave Barnes, a Nashville singer/songwriter involved with Mocha Club, an on-line community of people giving up the cost of two mochas a month – or $7 – to fund relief and development projects in Africa, including clean water; and

Bill Hearn, the President and CEO of EMI Christian Music Group, who is involved with Healing Waters International, a non-profit organization working to reduce water-related illness and death in developing countries.

Curb Garage Parking Notices for Wednesday and Friday

Most of level 7 of the Curb Event Center garage will be reserved on Wednesday, November 18 for campus events from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. All of Level 7 of the Curb Event Center garage will be reserved for an event on Friday, November 20 from 7 a.m. until noon.

Remember, the Office of Campus Security offers an event parking notice on their web page at http://www.belmont.edu/ocs/EVENT%20PARKING%20NOTICE/index.html.

In addition, Belmont offers "Zipcars" (www.zipcar.com) and has secured partnerships with Nashville's Metro Transit Authority (MTA) to provide all students, faculty and staff free transportation on MTA buses and the Music City Star rail system.

"Great American Smokeout" Activities Planned at Belmont

"The Great American Smokeout" is Thurs., Nov. 19. The American Cancer Society designates this day every year to encourage smokers to give up their tobacco products for this day. In order to highlight the problem of smoking and offer assistance with quitting, Health Services and the Wellness Committee are sponsoring several activities:

A Conversation with DJ Qualls Nov. 14

Actor, producer and Belmont University alumnus DJ Qualls will be joining the Theatre and Dance Department students for a conversation about his journey from here to Hollywood. DJ will discuss his Tennessee background, his Belmont training, as well as the challenges and successes he has experienced as a working actor in Hollywood. All students interested in participating are welcome to attend.

DJ’s expansive credits include roles in television and film including Numb3rs, The Core, The New Guy, Hustle and Flow, Lost, Breaking Bad, The Big Bang Theory, My Name Is Earl, CSI, Monk, Law and Order, and Scrubs.

Benefit Show Featuring The Carter Twins Aids Local Families Fighting Cancer

As a part of a concert promotion course within the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business, Belmont University students have organized "Care 4 Kids," a concert that will benefit five Mt. Juliet children battling cancer. The benefit will take place Sun., Nov. 15 at The Rutledge (410 4th Ave. S.), with doors opening at 5 p.m. The concert will feature The Carter Twins, an up-and-coming country music duo.
