See Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley Live in concert Tues., Nov. 10 on the plaza outside the Sommet Center (corner of Broadway and Fifth Ave.). No tickets necessary. The concert is free and open to the public!

Belmont Bookstore Carrying Apple Products

The Belmont Bookstore is now an Apple Educational Reseller. Through a partnership with Mac Authority, the Bookstore can now special order Mac computers and peripherals for students, faculty and staff at the educational discounted price for next-day pick-up at the Bookstore (subject to availability). The Bookstore will carry Apple software, iPods and Mac/iPod accessories in stock. Certain Apple products may be charged to student accounts (check with the Bookstore for restrictions).

Special TPAC Discounts for the Belmont Community

The Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) is offering special discounts to Belmont students, faculty and staff for upcoming performances of "The 101 Dalmatians Musical ," "A Christmas Story" and Manheim Steamroller.

"The 101 Dalmatians Musical" is an experience for the entire family about what it means to be a family, canine and courageous. Your special discounted performances are Wed., Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m., Thurs., Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Sun., Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Humorist Jean Shepherd's memoir of growing up in the midwest in the 1940s, "A Christmas Story" follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his unflappable campaign to get Santa (or anyone else) to give him a Red Rider carbine-action, 200 shot range-model air rifle. Your special discounted performances are Wed., Nov. 25 at 6:30 p.m. and Tues., Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m., Thurs., Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. and Sat., Dec. 19 at 2:30 p.m.

Finally, get an early start on your "holiday mood" when Mannheim Steamroller brings their Christmas tour to TPAC's Andrew Jackson Hall. Your special discounted performance is Sat., Nov. 21 at 8 p.m.

Concert Band and Wind Ensemble Performance Tonight 11/3

The University Concert Band and Wind Ensemble will perform tonight, Tues., Nov. 3, in Massey Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. The ensembles will perform works by Strauss, Hindemith, Holst, Vaughan Williams and Hanson. Free admission.

Meet the Bruins Night Thurs., Nov. 5

Belmont University men's basketball will host its second annual "Meet the Bruins" night this Thurs., Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. in the Curb Event Center. Presented by Pepsi, the event will serve as the first opportunity for the campus community and general public to see the 2009-10 Belmont Bruins in action. Head Coach Rick Byrd will be mic'd up throughout the evening, lending his commentary and insight during the one-hour open scrimmage. On the heels of a fifth postseason appearance in the last six seasons, this year's squad features eight promising newcomers including five true freshmen.

Join BSA for Relay for Life Fri., Nov. 6

Join Belmont's Black Student Association in supporting the American Cancer Society at this year's Relay for Life! Relay for Life will be held on Fri., Nov. 6 from 6 p.m. – 6 a.m. at Vanderbilt University's Recreational Center. Team members will take turns walking or running to show support for cancer research. There is a $10 registration fee to join the Relay for Life team, and anyone is welcome to join! For more information or to sign up, email Ashley Newsome at ash_newsome@yahoo.com.

Every student who joins the Relay for Life team will also receive a ticket for a chance to win a $50 iTunes gift card. Students who are unable to join the team, but would like to donate to Relay for Life may also receive a ticket for a minimum donation of $1. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the American Cancer Society.

Phi Kappa Tau Hosts Dodgeball Tournament

On Mon., Nov. 2, from 6-10 p.m., Phi Kappa Tau will be hosting the "Hole in the Wall Dodgeball Tournament." The Hole in the Wall Foundation will receive all proceeds from this event. Cost is $3 per person, $15 per team. Five people to a team. You do not have to have a team set up before hand. The event will be taking place in the Beaman Rec Gym. AIDS Documentary Tonight (10/28) Christian Faith Development Convo

Come join us for a screening of Dear Francis, an award-winning documentary about the experiences of two college students in the midst of one of the world's most dramatically AIDS-impacted places—Swaziland, where 40 percent of the population is HIV/AIDS positive. After the screening, there will be a discussion time with Dave Mahanes, founder of The Chronicle Project, Deidox, and producer of the movie. Screening starts at 7 p.m. in the Neely Dining Hall. Christian Faith Development convocation credit is available.

Hanson to Lead 'Take the Walk' Tour Through Belmont

Walk starts at Belmont’s Beaman Student Life Center and ends at the Vanderbilt University Bookstore.

Belmont students are invited to join the band Hanson for its ‘Take the Walk’ tour, a barefoot optional, one-mile walk to raise awareness of poverty and AIDS in Africa. Participants will start at Belmont University with a presentation by Hanson and then walk from the center of Belmont’s campus to the Vanderbilt bookstore where Hanson will sign their book, Take the Walk, and perform three acoustic songs. The book will be available for purchase at the Beaman Student Life Center prior to the walk. Students can charge the book to their Belmont accounts.

The walk will raise funds to support one of five causes, with one dollar donated by the ‘Take the Walk’ campaign for each walker. The band will educate students on the issues surrounding the walk and help connect them with existing efforts on the Belmont and Vanderbilt campuses and the Nashville community. Joel Salatin Speaking in Curb Tonight Oct. 26

Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms will speak tonight at 7 p.m. in the Curb Event Center. His work is featured prominently in this year’s common book The Omnivore's Dilemma, by Michael Pollan. There will be a question and answer session following the lecture. Convo credit will be offered.

H.U.G.G.S. Inc. Needs Volunteers

H.U.G.G.S. Inc. is a non-profit organization that helps ex-offenders become productive citizens. We seek to improve a better quality of life for the socio-economically disadvantaged families we serve. We are currently solely supported by donations and fundraisers and are setting our 2009-2010 FUNDRAISER CALENDARS and request your support. In November, we will have our “First Annual Giving and Receiving Benefit Banquet,” and in December we will have our “Holiday Blessings” fundraiser. In January we will have “All Things New," and in February we will have our “Celebrating Life” fundraisers. Each of these fundraisers is held to support our goal and mission to help ex-offenders become productive citizens.
