Health Services has received a new shipment of the H1N1 injectable vaccine and will begin administering it on Fri., Nov. 20 at 9 a.m. in the Teaching Center which is located on the second floor of the Gabhart Student Center. U.S. Senator Bob Corker, R-Tenn., second-ranking Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, will hold an event at Belmont University in Nashville on Monday, November 23 to highlight efforts to give millions around the world access to clean water. Corker and Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Illinois, are sponsors of the Water for the World Act, S. 624, which sets a goal of reaching 100 million people with first-time, sustainable access to safe drinking water and sanitation by 2015.

As a part of a concert promotion course within the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business, Belmont University students have organized "Care 4 Kids," a concert that will benefit five Mt. Juliet children battling cancer. The Office of Campus Security will be hosting a R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) Class for Women this November. The class will meet on Mondays: November 16, 23 and 30 from 6-9 p.m. at the Security Operations Center. The Rape Aggression Defense System is a 9-12 hour program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The R.A.D. System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. R.A.D. is not a Martial Arts program. Our courses are taught by nationally certified R.A.D. Instructors and provide each student with a workbook/reference manual.

Genocidal violence in Darfur (western Sudan) began in 2003 and still continues today. Two million refugees living in squalid camps need your help! Come to our concert to raise money for the Darfur refugees. Musical acts include the Kopecky Family Band, Michael Huff, and La'a kea Presley. Information session with slide show at 7 p.m., music starts at 7:30. Personal and Professional Growth (PPG) convocation credit for students who attend the information session and stay until at least 8 p.m. Suggested donation for admission is $5 per person. “Save Darfur” bracelets and “Stop Genocide in Sudan” T-shirts will be for sale; modest food and drink will be available at nominal charges. All proceeds will go to the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) to support its work among the refugees and displaced persons in Darfur and Chad (see www.aiddarfur.org). Bring your cash!
The Belmont Wind Ensemble has several spots available in clarinet and bass clarinet. Auditions will take place on Thurs., Nov. 12 from 3-5 p.m. Individual auditions may be scheduled outside of these times by appointment. In addition, the Belmont Concert Band is seeking new members for the spring semester. The Concert Band performs twice on campus during each semester and meets Monday/Wednesday from 3-4:20 p.m. All students are welcome to participate and enjoy performing excellent band literature in a relaxed atmosphere.

This semester's last two into.nashville events will happen on Sat., Nov. 14 and Sat., Nov. 21 from 8 a.m. until 1 pm. The first will be working with Belmont's own urban and community garden initiative, and the last will be partnering with East Nashville Cooperative Ministries. Into.nashville is a community service opportunity and convocation package deal—a great chance to get 5 total convocation hours (see University Ministries Web page for more information).
Into.nashville connects students with local inner-city ministries and non-profits to introduce them to their work, their clients and to give Belmont students a chance to experience the lives of Nashville's diverse communities. Students spend part of time learning about the organization and its mission, serving alongside one another on site, and reflecting theologically and vocationally about the volunteer experience. This is a convo package opportunity, and students must participate in the entire event in order to receive any credit. Space is limited, so students MUST sign up in order to participate. Sign up is available in the Director of Outreach's office in University Ministries, or by emailing intonashville@belmont.edu. All questions can be directed to the same email.

Belmont University men's basketball will host its second annual "Meet the Bruins" night this Thurs., Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. in the Curb Event Center. Presented by Pepsi, the event will serve as the first opportunity for the campus community and general public to see the 2009-10 Belmont Bruins in action. Head Coach Rick Byrd will be mic'd up throughout the evening, lending his commentary and insight during the one-hour open scrimmage. On the heels of a fifth postseason appearance in the last six seasons, this year's squad features eight promising newcomers including five true freshmen.

Join Belmont's Black Student Association in supporting the American Cancer Society at this year's Relay for Life! Relay for Life will be held on Fri., Nov. 6 from 6 p.m. – 6 a.m. at Vanderbilt University's Recreational Center. Team members will take turns walking or running to show support for cancer research.
