DEBATE08 OPEN HOUSE FOR THE BELMONT COMMUNITY THURSDAY
Belmont students, faculty, staff and neighbors are invited to an exclusive Debate08 Open House this Thursday, October 2. Come to the Media Filing Center and Curb Event Center any time from 10 a.m. until noon for an exclusive, self-guided walk through these venues. This is your opportunity to get an up close and inside view of Debate08. In addition, you will be able to view a C-SPAN exhibit documenting the history of the American presidency in the Maddox Grand Atrium.

DEBATE08 BLOCK PARTY SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7, NOON-6:30 P.M.
Belmont University invites all students, faculty, staff, neighbors and alumni to the Official Debate08 Block Party, to be held Tues., Oct. 7 from noon until 6:30 p.m. on Belmont Boulevard (the area between Athlete’s House and Morningside). Live music, food and numerous vendors and organizations will be on hand to celebrate the 2008 Town Hall Presidential Debate that will be held that evening in Belmont’s Curb Event Center. Local and national TV programs will be broadcasting live from the university’s quad. Join the live audience for MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews” at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., as well as other MSNBC programs and afternoon/evening newscasts from local Channels 2, 4 and 5. Walk on over Tuesday afternoon! You may access the Debate08 Block Party on foot via Acklen Avenue off 18th Avenue South.

NO LOCKED CONTAINERS IN RESIDENCES OVER FALL BREAK
Over Fall Break students will not be able to have any secured (locked) containers in their residences. Secret Service will need access to desks, footlockers, storage containers, etc. during the sweep on Monday/Tuesday. Lock your room door, but personal effects and other containers must be open to search. Locked items will be confiscated indefinitely.

REMINDERS

Relocation of Several Campus Offices
Preparations for the upcoming Presidential Debate will require the relocation of several offices and operations normally located in the Beaman Student Life Center and the Curb Event Center. These relocations are in effect from Mon., Sept. 29-Mon., Oct. 13.

Student Affairs operations including the Associate Provost & Dean of Students Office, Student Activities, Disability Services and Judicial Services will be located in Inman 403. Phone numbers for these offices and related personnel remain unchanged.

During the period of relocation, Convocation scanners may be picked up in the Office of Residence Life, located on the ground floor of Wright Hall. Requests for posting on campus may be submitted in the Office of Residence Life as well.

Tennessee and the Changing American Energy Landscape
Fri., Oct. 3, 4 p.m.
Join us for an evening to discuss how major energy-related institutions in Tennessee are responding to and helping resolve the energy challenges we face today. High ranking officials from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee Valley Authority, UT’s Biofuels Initiative and the Governor’s Energy Policy Task force will share their perspectives about this critically important issue. An audience question-and-answer session is encouraged after the presentation

The Declaration of Independence Comes to Tennessee
Oct. 4-6
A rare, original copy of the Declaration of Independence will be on public display at the Nashville Public Library Main Branch, 615 Church Street. The document will be in the library’s Conference Center on the first floor the entire weekend. Viewing hours are Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Admission is free. In addition to viewing America's founding document, visitors will also view a 10-minute video starring Reese Witherspoon that explains the history of the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence's visit to Tennessee is sponsored by Cricket Communications.

Vesper Service
Sun., Oct. 5, 4 p.m.
You are invited to join President Robert Fisher of Belmont University for our Debate08 Vesper Service. Our homilist is Rev. David Beckmann, president of Bread for the World, a citizens' anti-hunger movement which focuses on education about hunger and on influencing public policies on hunger and poverty. Please join us for refreshments following the service. Complimentary parking is available in several lots surrounding the church.
