Belmont Service Year Applications Now Available

The Belmont Service Year is a program that integrates intentional Christian community living with intense and significant work in the local community. Participants reside in and form the 15th Ave. Community, and commit to embody the shared life of an intentional community—creating a home economy of shared food, shared prayer, shared work, shared resources and shared responsibilities.

Students also commit to doing at least 12 hours per week of work in the local community (usually within the boundaries of the Edgehill neighborhood). In order to make this a viable option for students, Belmont subsidizes the cost of living for students by allowing all participants to live rent free as part of the 15th Ave Community.

Applications for the program are now available in the office of University Ministries. For more information, please call 460.6419.

Special TPAC Discounts for Belmont Students

Rain covers the Fab Four from the earliest beginnings through the psychedelic late '60s and their long-haired hippie, hard-rocking rooftop days. Rain is a multi-media, multi-dimensional experience... a fusion of historical footage and hilarious television commercials from the 1960s. Your special discounted performances are Sat., Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. and Sun., Nov. 16 at 6:30 p.m.

Set in 1939 Hollywood, Moonlight and Magnolias tells the story of what could have happened when legendary producer David O. Selznick shut down production of his new epic, Gone with the Wind. While fending off the film’s stars, gossip columnists and his own father-in-law, Selznick sends a car for famed screenwriter Ben Hecht and pulls formidable director Victor Fleming from the set of The Wizard of Oz. Summoning both to his office, he locks the doors, closes the shades, and on a diet of bananas and peanuts, the three men labor over five days to fashion a screenplay that will become the blueprint for one of the most successful films of all time. Your special discounted performances of Moonlight & Magnolias are Tues., Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m., Thurs., Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. and Sat., Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

Log on to www.tpac.org/corporatesaver to purchase tickets, and click on UNIVERSITY. Your special password is belmont. Offers end Nov. 10 (or while tickets last).

Additionally, students will read and write about America's rich traditions of travel and tourism, while writing travel narratives of their experience through blogs and possible published newspaper articles.
