New Banner IDs to Be Assigned

When is this happening?
On Dec. 26, 2007, Administrative Computing will convert all Banner IDs from social security numbers to a randomly generated BUid.

How does this affect me?
You can expect to be asked for your BUid at any location on campus where you are currently asked for your social security number. In particular, student Bookstore charges will require your BUid.

How can I learn my BUid?
A letter containing your BUid has been mailed to either your home or local address. If you did not receive the letter, then you can still find your BUid. Keep reading for more information on this.

What strategies are in place to help me manage this change?
A) BUid display in BIC: After Dec. 26, 2007, your BUid will display upon login to your campus BIC account.

B) Stickers for your Campus ID card: To help make this transition easier, BUid stickers will be provided to place on the back of your campus ID card. You must have your campus ID card with you in order to get a sticker. Stickers for existing card holders will be available for pick up at the following locations:
Belmont Central, during regular business hours, beginning January 2
The Bookstore, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., January 7-11

Learn more about getting a sticker.

Will my barcode or magnetic stripe on my campus ID card change?
No, the barcode number on the front of your campus id card and the magnetic stripe on the back will not be affected by this change.

Why is this happening?
This is an effort to protect privacy, minimize the risk of fraud and to comply with federal regulations. Your social security number will continue to be maintained in Banner for certain human resource and/or student financial aid purposes.

How can I learn more about this project?
Information about the Banner ID conversion, including Frequently Asked Questions, can be found at http://www.belmont.edu/acit/buid. A special email account has been set up to receive questions about the BUid conversion. Send a note to buid@mail.belmont.edu or contact us through the Administrative Computing Action Line at 460-5400. When this voice mail line is answered, enter 1791, listen to the greeting and leave a message. We will return your emails and phone calls promptly.

Snow Closing Information Reminder

It's that time of year when snow appears in the forecast. Although campus closings and class cancellations are rare at Belmont University, snow and icy weather conditions do create the potential need for such action. In the event of inclement weather, there are several sources you can turn to for information about class cancellations and office closings.
Belmont's Instant Alert System: Receive closing details via your cell phone.
Registration is quick and easy. Text the word Belmont to 27538 or sign in to your BIC account on bic.belmont.edu and look for the Instant Alert message (under My Campus and Academic Department Messages). Click on the link provided, and you will be directed to the instant alert Web site.
BIC (belmont intranet connection) bic.belmont.edu: Closing details will be available in the "campus announcements" section of the home page.
Belmont's Web page www.belmont.edu: A headline under "Belmont News" on the home page will provide a link to closing details.
The Belmont News Line (460-5000): If the weather is questionable, the campus hotline will provide a campus status update.
Local media: Belmont’s Office of Communication has coordinated with the following media to broadcast closing information:
Television:
WKRN-TV, Channel 2
WSMV-TV, Channel 4
WTVF-TV, Channel 5
FOX-TV, Channel 17 (Comcast Channel 6)
Radio:
WSM 650-AM , WLAC 1510-AM
WJXA, WMAK 96.3-FM, WJXA 92.9-FM
WPLN 90.3-FM, WKDF 103.3-FM, WGFX 104.5-FM
WRVW 107.5-FM, WUBT 101.1-FM, WNRQ 105.9-FM, WSIX 97.9 FM
Because weather and road conditions can vary greatly within our region, students, faculty and staff are urged to use individual discretion when traveling to campus in snow or icy conditions.
