Letter from Dr. Fisher: 2008 Presidential Debate

Dear Students,
Today is a momentous day in the history of Belmont University. As you read this, a press conference is being held on campus in which I am officially announcing that the Commission on Presidential Debates has selected Belmont to host next fall’s Town Hall Presidential Debate, which will be held in the Curb Event Center on Tues., Oct. 7, 2008. From 16 nationwide finalists, our campus has been chosen as one of only three presidential debate sites, making Belmont and Middle Tennessee vital locations in an election that will determine the nation’s future direction.

It is an amazing honor, a tremendous responsibility and a fantastic opportunity for all of us. We will be privileged to see the frontlines of the political process and engage with a vast array of professionals and scholars, all while witnessing the significant benefits this event will have on our university and the local Nashville community. Of course, this responsibility will also come with its share of challenges that will require our patience and our willingness to serve, qualities I have no doubt will shine through as we all seek to embody the Belmont vision and mission.

You can read the full press release on this announcement online now at www.belmont.edu, and, of course, you will be hearing much, much more about this in the weeks and months ahead. For now, I ask that you join me in celebrating this latest triumph in Belmont’s history.

—President Bob Fisher

Special TPAC Offers, just for YOU!

Return with us to those thrilling days of yesteryear when news, music, comedy, drama, and soap operas came into our homes via radio. The time is Christmas Eve 1946 at station WBFR, where five talented radio players bring you all the characters (yes, all of them) in It"s a Wonderful Life plus commercials, sound effects, and music-a great way to experience anew the powerful story of George Bailey, "the richest man in town". This production is directed by and stars David Alford.

Your special discounted performances of It"s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play are Wednesday, December 5 at 6:30 PM, Friday, December 7 at 7:30 PM and Saturday, December 8 at 2:30 PM. Seats for these shows are going fast so don"t delay! Log on and save 60% on your tickets! This great offer ends December 1 (or while tickets last).

New TPAC Special Offers, just for YOU!

Season's Greetings from A TUNA CHRISTMAS, the hilarious sequel to the hit comedy, Greater Tuna, starring Tony® Award-nominated Joe Sears and Jaston Williams. Master comedians Sears and Williams, with their deft comedic timing, trademark characterizations and split-second costume changes, portray all 24 citizens of Tuna, the third smallest town in Texas, where the Lions Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies! This time, it's 24 hours before Christmas and the delightfully eccentric characters are attempting to cope with seasonal traumas such as a disaster-prone little theatre production of A Christmas Carol, and a yard-decorating contest being sabotaged by a mysterious Christmas phantom.

Your special discounted performances of A TUNA CHRISTMAS are Thursday, December 20 at 7:30 PM, Saturday, December 22 at 2:00 PM and Sunday, December 23 at 6:30 PM. Seats for these shows are going fast so don’t delay! Log on and save 20% on your tickets! This great offer ends December 16 (or while tickets last).

If you don't want to see this show because it's "ONE OF THE LIVELIEST, FUNNIEST, BEST-PERFORMED MUSICALS IN YEARS!" (New York Post), then see it because the money helps pay for our grandmother's cosmetic surgery. Set on the glorious, glamorous Riviera, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS is a delicious comedy that follows two con artists as they take on the lifestyles of the rich and shameless - and end up with a lot more than they bargain for. (Please note: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels contains adult language and content.)

Your special discounted performances of DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS are Thursday, January 10 at 7:30 PM, Saturday, January 12 at 2:00 PM and Sunday, January 13 at 6:30 PM. Seats for these shows are going quickly so don’t delay! Log on and save up to 70%* on your tickets! This great offer ends January 6 (or while tickets last).

New Belmont ID Numbers to be Created; Check Addresses

On Dec. 26, 2007, Administrative Computing will be converting all Banner IDs from the social security number to a new randomly generated ID called the BUid. This is an effort to protect privacy, minimize the risk of fraud and comply with federal regulations.
Currently enrolled students will be receiving a letter the first week of December 2007 with important information about the new BUid. Residence hall students will receive this letter at their campus mailing address which is kept up to date through the university housing software. Commuter students will receive this letter at the mailing address designated in Banner. In preparation for this, commuter students need to review / update this address. This can be accomplished by 1) logging into your campus BIC account, 2) select BannerWeb, 3) select Personal Information, 4) select view addresses to review. If your mailing address needs to be updated, select update addresses. For the type of address to insert, click the drop down arrow and select mailing, then click submit and follow the instructions on the update page. If you have questions, please email buid@mail.belmont.edu.
