Africa Bound
In just ten days a group of nineteen students and three faculty members from Belmont University will begin the long journey to Capetown, South Africa. Students have enrolled in three classes being offered for the trip, Social Entrepreneurship taught by Dr. Jeffery Overby, a Junior Conerstone Religion course taught by Dr. Andy Watts, and Third Year Writing taught by team leader Dr. Bonnie Smith. The entire group will be reading Desmond Tutu’s book No Future Without Forgiveness and focusing on the themes of truth, poverty and justice.
While in South Africa the group will be staying at The Team House and working with Living Hope Community Center. We will spend several days learning, playing, and serving with different children's clubs. There will also be some traveling to Robben Island and Table Mountain, as well as Penguin Viewing at Cape Point.
After nine days in South Africa, our team will travel to Gaborone, Botswana where we will be staying at The Big Five Lodge. While in Botswana the team will be working with Kamogelo Orphans, SOS Children's Project, and Holy Cross Hospice. Then we will spend two days on a game drive through Pilanesberg National Park before making the journey back home.
