I hope all of you got registered for classes and paid your bill on time. If not, make a call to Belmont Central quickly to work out final details.

The events planned surrounding the debate this year look phenomenal. Check out the events here and make plans to fill your convocation requirements with great speakers, concerts, theatre performances, and other special events. And pencil in October 7th to watch the town hall debates being broadcast from Belmont while you're on fall break!

How can it be July already?

Boy! How the time flies! Orientation is over--just one session left! So many new students signed up and ready to go! I hope all of our current students have registered and everyone has done most of their drop/adds before registration closes next week. Then we'll send out schedule bills so you can have a few weeks time before payment due date in early August.

We've gotten great feedback from orientation and I hope that all of you had your questions answered and felt at home here. It was great to meet those who'll be joining our Belmont community this fall.

Summer school at Belmont has just kicked in to second summer term. Over 1000 students enrolled for summer courses so the campus is always hopping. Lots of students studying abroad and mission trips around the globe. Right now we have students in Africa and Hong Kong. Hope you've been reading the blogs from Cambodia, the sports team trips, and others to get a feel for what's happening abroad.

Planning for the debates is still heavily underway. Lots of great programming coming up this year around the debates so look to get in a LOT of convo credit with so many great featured programs.

My family is busy with some vacation time and yard sales, orientation and summer school at Belmont and summer internships. We love the summer, but it won't be look until school is ready to start up. We'll be excited about that as well.

Orientation is underway

Today begins all the freshman and transfer orientation sessions for the summer. Hundreds of new students, parents and family members will be on campus during June. Lots of information will be shared and new friends will be made.

As a parent, this is a tough time. It's so wonderful to see your student make connections that will last throughout this next year and really throughout life. But it's hard to think about them moving to Belmont and away from home. Take lots of time to meet Belmont people while you're here and ask all the questions you can think of to make you comfortable. And remember, you're not alone. 65% of Belmont freshmen come from out of state and 30% come from more than 500 miles away!

We want to hear from you about orientation as well. Please let us know what you found to be helpful and how we can improve to meet your needs.

All the best, Kathy Baugher

First Blog and Orientation's coming

Welcome to my new blog! I'm so excited to begin sharing this journey with the rest of you who are also Belmont parents. The purpose of this blog is to give you an opportunity to see what's going on administratively and academically on campus, through the eyes of a parent. I plan to let you know what I'm reminding my sons to do to meet deadlines or handle particular situations that arise. I want you to feel free to comment and ask questions. If they are generic enough that everybody can benefit from them, we'll post them. If you have something related to your specific situation and haven't been able to get an answer through some other source, I'll get you directed to the right person.

I have a dual role at Belmont and this blog will address issues for parents of current students and questions and issues for prospective student parents. I hope you'll find what is posted helpful. Sometimes we'll invite guest bloggers to address issues that are particularly relevant. And I'll provide links on the side to other helpful areas and information. I'm looking forward to how this opportunity unfolds.

All the best as you move forward toward your child's college future.
